January Favourites

Music, Movies, and more, January was a pretty good month. This week, I’m going to focus on all the good things that happened last month (because we all know that there were A LOT of bad things that happened too).  In a time of sadness and anger, it’s also important to take a break, and enjoy the little things 🙂

Favourite Movies:
Moana
OH MY GOODNESS! This is one of the best Disney movies I’ve seen in a while.  There were some parts that were remincent of old school Disney, but it was a brand new story.  The music, man, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Marc Mancina – geniuses. The visuals were incredible, it make you feel like you were on the journey with Moana.
11/10 go watch it! Especially if you like animation, music, heartwarming stories, adventure

Hidden Figures
WOW! What an incredible movie! I love movies that are based on true stories, and this one was so interesting.  It was so inspirational to see a) women in science, and b) Afrrican-American women in science.  I also thought it was cool that while it was a movie that took place in the 1960, and very clearly dealt with racism and sexism, there weren’t the extremely graphic/violent scenes that you come to expect in a movie about the civil rights movement.  Taraji P. Henderson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe brought the characters to life in an authentic way. And Hans Zimmer did the score, do you really need more convincing?
11/10 go watch! Especially if you like inspirational stories, true stories, badass women

TV Shows:
This Is Us
THIS IS US MIGHT BE THE BEST SHOW I’VE EVER WATCHED! A story about a family with so many complexities, woven together to create a masterpiece.  All the characters are lovable, and each week, you fall even harder in love with them.  Jasmin and I text each other every week as the show is broadcast, mostly with emojis (see image).  It’s been confirmed for season 2 and 3, so there’s much more to come.
12/10 go watch it! Especially if you like heartwarming stories, plot twists, diverse cast/characters
